  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release Date : 2016-06-03
  • Category: Science
  • Pages : 684
  • ISBN Code: 1483225240

Summary: The Scattering of Light and other Electromagnetic Radiation covers the theory of electromagnetic scattering and its practical applications to light scattering. This book is divided into 10 chapters that particularly present examples of practical applications to light scattering from colloidal and macromolecular systems. The opening chapters survey the physical concept of electromagnetic waves and optics. The subsequent chapters deal with the theory of scattering by spheres and infinitely long cylinders. These topics are followed by discussions on the application of light scattering to the determination of the size distribution of colloidal particles. The last chapters are devoted to the Rayleigh-Debye scattering and the scattering by liquids, as well as the concept of anisotropy. These chapters also describe the effect upon light scattering of partial orientation of anisotropic particles in electrical and magnetic fields and in viscous flow. This book is of value to physical chemists and physical chemistry researchers, teachers, and students.

Absorption and Scattering of Light by Small Particles Book by Craig F. Bohren,Donald R. Huffman

Absorption and Scattering of Light by Small Particles Book
  • Author : Craig F. Bohren,Donald R. Huffman
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release Date : 2008-09-26
  • Category: Science
  • Pages : 544
  • ISBN Code: 3527618163

Summary: Absorption and Scattering of Light by Small Particles Treating absorption and scattering in equal measure, this self-contained, interdisciplinary study examines and illustrates how small particles absorb and scatter light. The authors emphasize that any discussion of the optical behavior of small particles is inseparable from a full understanding of the optical behavior of the parent material-bulk matter. To divorce one concept from the other is to render any study on scattering theory seriously incomplete. Special features and important topics covered in this book include: * Classical theories of optical properties based on idealized models * Measurements for three representative materials: magnesium oxide, aluminum, and water * An extensive discussion of electromagnetic theory * Numerous exact and approximate solutions to various scattering problems * Examples and applications from physics, astrophysics, atmospheric physics, and biophysics * Some 500 references emphasizing work done since Kerker's 1969 work on scattering theory * Computer programs for calculating scattering by spheres, coated spheres, and infinite cylinders

Summary: After decades "in the shadows", urban lighting is re-emerging as a matter of public debate. Long-standing truths are increasingly questioned as a confluence of developments affects lighting itself and the way it is viewed. Light has become an integral element of place-making and energy-saving initiatives alike. Rapidly evolving lighting technologies are opening up new possibilities, but also posing new challenges to planners, and awareness is growing that artificial illumination is not purely benign but can actually constitute a form of pollution. As a result, public policy frameworks, incentives and initiatives are undergoing a phase of innovation and change that will affect how cities are lit for years to come. The first comprehensive compilation of current scientific discussions on urban lighting and light pollution from a social science and humanities perspective, Urban Lighting, Light Pollution and Society contributes to an evolving international debate on an increasingly controversial topic. The contributions draw a rich panorama of the manifold discourses connected with artificial illumination in the past and present – from early attempts to promote new lighting technologies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to current debates on restricting its excessive usage in public space and the protection of darkness. By bringing together a cross-section of current findings and debates on urban lighting and light pollution from a wide variety of disciplines, it reflects that artificial lighting is multifaceted in its qualities, utilisation and interpretation. Including case studies from the United States, Europe, and the UK, Urban Lighting, Light Pollution and Society is one of the first to take a serious assessment of light, pollution, and places and is a valuable resource for planners, policy makers and students in related subjects.

This is not just a history book, but is an attempt to find a solution for the problem of Iran by the knowledge of past. This book starts from creation of the Universe and after reveiwing the vanished civilizations, gradually enters into history of Iran and Islam. History of Iran after Islam, together with important events in the other parts of the world, specially their advancements, have been analyzed. Until we sum up the last one hundred-year struggles of our country, in order to prove: The way to rescue Iran is a new constitution. History of Iran, simultaneously with events in the other parts of the world are studied, to find out what is really the problem with us? We have tries so hard and even had revolutions for freedom and never succeeded. In this book, lots of documents and articles have been copied from Internet Encyclopedias Wikipedia, National Geography, History and other websites. After reading these few hundred pages, we will conclude: Not having an ideal constitution in Iran is our problem. In the past thirty years, theft, corruption, murder, injustice, prostitution, drug addiction, insult to people’s believes, lies, torture and rape in prison and many other shameful behaviors in this Dictatorship Regime of the Ayatollahs, has super pass the level, or even higher than international record level. For many years these shameless behaviors have lost its sense of shame and hideousness. Force, reasoning, and million-people demonstrations and protests have no effect. More importantly, military intervention either by Sadam or in the future, only strengthen the regime. Unfortunately a lot of Iranians who inside and outside Iran randomly complain, they have hopes to reform the present regime or follow the failed monarchists or a group of traitor terrorists and most ridicules are those who believe “The 12th Emam Messiah” will come out of the “Chamkaran Well” and rescue this tired and weary nation. Before reforming or changing this regime, a constitution must be drafted and all of our campaign to be on this constitution’s framework. In that case, the opportunists in the future, like two previous Iranian revolutions, will not be able to steal our revolution and impose another dictatorship on Iran. After swearing to this new constitution, anybody can candid himself or herself for leadership. Only with an ideal new constitution, we can guarantee the death of dictatorship forever. Before raising the slogans to change this regime, first job, even in this age of freedom suffocations and suppressions in Iran, must be to draft an ideal new constitution. Fortunately, in this age of Internet, we can put our new constitution in a relative referendum and after having a constitution in hand; we can start our non-violence campaign. Our slogan must be “change of constitution”. Otherwise, “death to the dictator”, “equality between men and women”, “separation of religion and government”, “equality for all Iranian with any religion and political view”, “enforcing the international declaration of human right” and hundreds of other slogans, they all will be in this new constitution. In the past hundred year, hundreds Kaveh Ahangar have come and gone. But where is Derafsh e Kavian?

Summary: Based on a true story, this gorgeous novel follows the fortunes of three Berliners caught up in an art scandal—involving newly discovered van Goghs—that rocks Germany amid the Nazis’ rise to power. In the turbulent years between the wars, nothing in Berlin is quite what it seems. Not for Emmeline, a wayward young artist freewheeling wildly through the city in search of meaning. Not for Julius, an eminent art connoisseur who finds it easier to love paintings than people. And most definitely not for Frank, a Jewish lawyer who must find a way to protect his family and his principles as the Nazis begin their rise to power. But the greatest enigma of them all is Matthias, the mercurial art dealer who connects them all. Charming and ambitious, he will provoke a scandal—involving newly discovered paintings by Vincent van Gogh—that turns all of their lives upside down. Inspired by true events, this brilliant, humane novel peels back the cherished illusions that sustain us to reveal the truths beneath. A book about beauty and justice, vanity and self-delusion, it asks: Do we see only what we want to see? Even in the full light of the sun?

Summary: This second book of the Real Magic series continues to explore the ancient Hermetic Teachings as “A mental art—the art of using consciousness itself as the tool for creating changes in consciousness.” What does the Hermetic axiom “as above, so below” really mean? The relationship between macrocosm (above) and microcosm (below) is the key to the Hermetic Teachings. Macrocosm refers to the Eternal Reality of Light; the realm of God. Microcosm is its reflection; a fragmentation of Light; the world of human existence and human ego. The core of the Hermetic Teachings for centuries has been focused on transforming the fragmented body of Light in human consciousness and uniting below with above.
